Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Determine job requirements
  2. Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  3. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
  4. Interpret site plans, scaffolding/equipment designs and drawings to industry practices, as necessary
  5. Prepare to erect scaffold/equipment
  6. Prepare erection site to meet job requirements
  7. Place necessary signage and barriers and third-party protection measures in appropriate position
  8. Erect scaffold/equipment
  9. Erect scaffolding/equipment to plan and in accordance with safe work practices, Australian Standards, state and territory legislative requirements and equipment manufacturers' requirements
  10. Check the completed scaffolding/equipment for safety and operational requirements
  11. Leave site clear of all surplus components, equipment, tools and debris
  12. Inspect, repair and alter scaffold/equipment
  13. Inspect the scaffolding/equipment for damage, corrosion and wear
  14. Carry out any alteration or repair in accordance with safe work practices and legislative requirements
  15. Complete any inspection log, as required
  16. Dismantle scaffold/equipment
  17. Dismantle scaffolding/equipment in accordance with site procedures, state and territory legislative requirements and critical structural and safety requirements
  18. Clean and clear site of all tools, excess material and debris and leave in a safe state

Range Statement

Scaffolding/equipment includes one (1) or more of the following:

modular or prefabricated scaffolds

cantilevered materials hoists with a maximum working load of 500 kg

ropes and gin wheels

safety nets and static lines

bracket scaffolds (tank and formwork)

Hazards include one (1) or more of the following:

chemicals

dangerous or hazardous substances/materials

movement of equipment, goods and materials

vehicular traffic

uneven/unstable terrain

overhead service lines

trees

underground services

obstructions

structures

surrounding buildings

facilities

bridges/walkways

lifting equipment

Prescribed procedures include one (1) or more of the following:

clarification of instructions and/or plans either written or from authorised personnel

site safety policy and procedures

SOPs

correct use of equipment

industry standards and requirements

manufacturers' specifications

Signage and barriers and third-party protection measures include one (1) or more of the following:

physical barriers (para webbing, bollards, timber or metal barriers)

warning/direction signs

personnel to restrict unauthorised access (spotters)

permits to work

Safe work practices include the following:

hazard identification

risk assessment

risk reduction measures

housekeeping

PPE

State and territory legislative requirements include the following:

appropriate WHS and Scaffolding Acts and regulations

Australian Standards and codes of practice, including:

NOHSC:1006, National Occupational Health and Safety Certification Standards for Users and Operators of Industrial Equipment
